Play Therapy

Play therapy is an evidence-based intervention designed to support a child’s brain development, social-emotional skills, and ability to integrate challenging experiences by utilizing successful coping tools. Children communicate what they know through their play.

By providing this evidence-supported service, VitalCare is able to help families to better understand, support, and engage with their child.

Play therapy strategies include a number of interactive opportunities including art, music, sensory activities, movement, dramatic play, and storytelling. At VitalCare, both child-directed and therapist-directed interventions are used to ensure that the child’s needs are the focus of each session. Play therapy can be used at any stage of development and is appropriate for children and teens of all abilities and skill-levels.

Play therapy is a versatile, innovative, and flexible model that can address a wide variety of challenges including trauma and adverse experiences, grief, sibling conflict, attachment concerns, peer interaction, and low self-esteem. By engaging a child in play, we allow them to share what is true and real to them; children are encouraged to share, create, and change their inner narratives while learning pro-social skills, self-advocacy, and positive attachment.

Play therapy provides the VitalCare team with invaluable insight into a child’s current level of functioning and prepares the therapist to create the best, most supportive plan to reach your family’s goals.

Heart for healing

Lisa is a genuinely compassionate person with a heart for healing. Her sharp wit, excellent communication skills, and sense of empathy created an environment where my family and I felt comfortable sharing our struggles. I feel so lucky to have been able to work with Lisa, we couldn’t have grown the way we have without her expert and insightful guidance. Lisa goes above and beyond to help you to make you feel safe and heard.

Out of the shadows and into the light

Lisa was the person that I could count on to feel safe. She made me feel heard and not alone during a very dark and hard time. Lisa created a space for me where I could feel vulnerable and not be judged and I felt comfortable to share. The first session I had with Lisa, I remember after pouring my heart out and her telling me that it was okay and that I wasn’t alone. I would look forward to see her every month from there on. I would always have this calm wave come over me, like everything was fine. She created a space where I could talk without wanting to stop. She cares deeply about her clients and their success. To describe what Lisa did for my family and I in a simple sentence, I’d say she pulled us out of the shadows and into the light.

Wonderful therapist

I met Lisa on the second day of my terminally ill son’s life who wasn’t supposed to even be alive for her to meet. This was a trauma, slow-burning until acute. As good therapists do, Lisa listens and listens, then listens some more. Then at seminal points, she poses poignantly simple questions that help me grow. Lisa is a wonderful therapist.

Lisa is an excellent listener and offers helpful insights and steps for resolution. She is very caring and dedicated to the people in her care. Lisa has helped me navigate through some of the hardest moments of my life. I am so grateful for her support.
